The work focused on the use of Robot Process Automation (RPA) in technical plausibility testing as part of the homologation process. The team tested the bots they had developed in two ways: first, starting from the homologation catalogue, the program searches for technical drawings in an online system, automatically downloads them and files them in the right place. Second, information from the homologation catalogue that requires an annex is compared with files stored in the folders and marked as plausible or implausible.
“It’s precisely these simple copy/paste and comparison tasks that lend themselves to the use of bots. The results of the final thesis showed that in the case we studied, the process times are twice as fast compared to manual processes,” explains Angelo Decker, Head of Technical Compliance at PSW and co-supervisor of the final thesis. “In the homologation process, we see great potential for the use of RPA,” explains Angelo. “It allows our staff to focus on more sustainable activities, and we are able minimize the risk of careless mistakes even further.”
